Washer Repair El Paso talks about washing machine issues

Did you know that harmful gases can buildup inside of modern-day washing machines and cause everything from funky odors to major explosions? It’s true, especially when we’re talking about hydrogen gas and washing machines that run on steam or hot water. Our washer repair El Paso pros have known about this for some time but others are just now noticing it. So this week, we wanted to explain how the gas gets in there and what to do about it and how to avoid appliance troubleshooting and repair.

Hydrogen is widely considered to be one of the lightest, most common, flammable elements in the world. It is naturally present in water and methane. Plus, it is often the byproduct of acid metal reactions and water based electrolysis. Washers are obviously made of metal and run on water. Thus, that’s why washing machines that haven’t been used in a while can accumulate dangerous amounts of hydrogen in their lines. Unfortunately, once that buildup of gas is exposed to heat from a running appliance motor or an electrical spark, it has the potential to catch fire or otherwise explode.

With that in mind, solving the problem is rather easy. First, make sure that there is no chance of a spark or flame reaching the gas. The best way to achieve that safely is to turn off the electrical power and gas service running to the home. Next, extinguish any candles, cigarettes or other items that run on flames. Then turn all of the faucets in the house to the open, hot water position. Let them run freely for at least 5-minutes. Afterward, shut the faucets off, flush the toilet, open the windows and turn on some fans. Doing so should push all of the pent-up gas outside. Finally, turn both the home’s electric and gas service back on. At this point, it should be safe to resume doing the laundry.
